New York State Paid Prenatal Leave Law Goes Into Effect

In accordance with new legislation passed by New York State, the University will expand its benefits to provide paid prenatal leave time to all covered employees working in New York state, including faculty, staff, student workers, temporary employees and graduate assistants. The change is effective Jan. 1, 2025.

The state’s new paid prenatal leave is first-in-the-nation and gives employees the ability to take up to 20 hours of paid leave for health care services related to the employee’s pregnancy in a 52-week period. The paid prenatal leave is in addition to the existing sick time available to University employees and will not carry over to the next year.
